How does it work?

In order to fully understand Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory one must first of all accept that there is an alternative understanding of health. Some aspects of Acupuncture diagnosis are completely compatible with the Western viewpoint of health. However, much runs counter to these views.

According to traditional theories illness is reflected in an imbalance of "energy" or "life force" called Qi (pronounced Chee) which flows through Channels and Organs within our bodies.

The flow of Qi ("life force") can be disturbed by a number of factors. These include emotional states such as anxiety, stress, anger, fear or grief, poor nutrition, weather conditions, hereditary factors, infections, poisons and traumas.

By inserting fine needles into these channels of energy, an Acupuncturist can stimulate the body's own healing response and help restore its natural balance.
