Brief introduction

Acupuncture, which literally means "needle piercing", has been used as a means of primary healthcare for over 5000 years. Stone Acupuncture needles dating from the Neolithic period (2500 BC) were found in tombs in Inner Mongolia. The oldest comprehensive medical textbook the "Nei Jing" (Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine), was written circa 300 BC and is still referred to today.

Acupuncture is a major part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a sophisticated and complex system of healthcare which also encompasses Herbal Medicine, Moxibustion (a method of stimulating Acupuncture points with a smouldering herb) , Massage, Dietary Therapy and a series of gentle stretching and breathing exercises known as "Tai Chi" and "Qi Gong".
