Home Farm has changed little since it was built in the 1780s. The farm house itself is over 250 years old and was once two separate cottages. After the two main yards were built the Gin Gan or horse engine, was added. This provided power for the threshing machine for some 50 years. Other buildings have been added since then - the combined pig sty and hen house in the 1800s and the long cart shed in 1905.

Home Farm is home to lots of animals, many of which are of traditional breeds, some rare. Animals include Teeswater Sheep, Shorthorn Cattle as well as a mixture of ponies, pigs, geese, hens, ducks etc. Additionally Beamish has three breeds of heavy and half heavy horses. The horses are used for industrial and agricultural work around the museum.
