Railway Station and Signal Box

The Railway Station from the Town

A short distance from the Town is the Railway Station and Signal Box.

Beamish Station is a typical branch line station. The station building The Station Building & Ticket Officewas built in 1867 and came from Rowley near Consett. The wrought iron footbridge leading to the Town is from Howden le Wear, the Signal Box came from Carr House East, Consett.

Across the line at the other end of the station (in the background of the photo) is a goods yard complete with warehouse and office from Alnwick, Northumberland.

Unfortunately there are normally no longer any working engines at Beamish other than at Pockerley Waggonway - the 1825 Railway, however, there are a few examples of rolling stock on display. Should you wish to ride a Steam Train then Tanfield Railway is not far away and runs most weekends.
