Power from the Past

 

A collection of beautifully restored motorcycles, bicycles, horse drawn vehicles and stationary engines (all restored by The Friend's of Beamish).Various exhibits from the event

Steam Glorious Steam.

National Traction Engine Rally - engines from the 1890's to 1930's in the Goods Yard and at the Railway Station. The 2002 Traction Engine Rally

The Georgian Garden

Guided walks around the beautiful Georgian Gardens at Pockerley Manor.

24th & 25th

Empire Celebrations

See the Town decorated with patriotic flags and bunting. Brass bands play to celebrate Empire Day.

Children in period costume, recitals, hymn singing all in the Colliery Chapel.

7th & 8th

1913 Military Camp

 

1st World War encampment. Members of the Great War Society in full battle dress demonstrating 'skill at arms' and military life in the early 1900's. The 1913 Army on Parade

28th & 29th

North Country Quilting

 

See examples of the extensive Beamish Quilt Collection. Demonstrations throughout the weekend.
Plus "Ten of the Best Quilts" from the Beamish collection will be on display from 30th June to 6th July.

National Archaeology Weekend

 

At Pockerley Manor, a whole host of fascinating demonstrations and activities, including calligraphy, baking, candle making, bee skep making and traditional pole lathing.

Horse Ploughing Match & Country Crafts

Ploughmen from around the country compete in the annual Beamish event. Watch the magnificent heavy horses at work.The 2002 Ploughing Match
Also country crafts demonstrations of basket, corn dolly and harness making and traditional pole lathing.

Try your hand at the Corn Dolly Exhibition in The Town and see the corn dollies on display around the Museum Corn Dolly Making

Other Events

In addition to the events listed, there are a number of fascinating demonstrations and ‘happenings' at Beamish throughout the summer season.

Highlights include -

Steaming at the Station - Demonstrations of shunting with Locomotives in Steam at the Railway Station.

Brass Band Concerts - On summer Sundays in The Town park Bandstand.

Chapel Choirs - Local Methodist choirs will give recitals in The Colliery Village Chapel on some summer Saturdays & Sundays.

Harness Making ­ Demonstrations of leather harness making in the Carriage House in The Town.

Concertina Player – Traditional concertina tunes in Home Farm kitchen.

Basket Making - Demonstrations of traditional basket making with the opportunity to buy the handmade crafts at Home Farm.

Corn Dollies – Display and demonstrations of Corn Dolly making at Pockerley Manor and at Home Farm.
