To qualify for the show eack leek must have a balanced "barrel" (area of blanch) of no more than six inches from the "button" (point at the base of the flags) to the "beard" (roots), although the diameter can be unlimited. Leeks are judged according to condition, solidity and uniformity. The Northern method of measuring leeks is by calculating the cubic capacity of the leeks. The cubic capacity of the two leeks entered are added together to give the total size. |
