Shopping
The village store and post office in nearby Poolewe stocks most groceries & newspapers you may need during your stay, as well as a range of beers, wines & spirits, but is closed on a Sunday. Newspapers may be purchased on a Sunday from the Coffee Shop in Poolewe.
In the village of Aultbea there is a general store with lottery ticket terminal and a butchers shop. Gairloch is the largest village in the area; there are a variety of shops including a grocery/ butchers & chemi-store (not a pharmacy) as well as a Bank of Scotland with a cash point.
Beaches & Walks
The nearest beach is situated at the far end of Inverasdale at Firemore (3 mins in the car). There are also sandy beaches at Gairloch, Redpoint, Mellon Udrigle & Gruinard Bay.
Booklets on local walks are provided in the apartment and cover all grades of walk.
Arrival, Departure & Keys
Bookings are from Saturday to Saturday. You can arrive any time after 4pm and are requested to vacate the apartment by 12 midday on day of departure. If your hosts John and Mhairi are unable to meet you, the front door will be left open and the key will be left behind the door. Please park at the front of the house and remember to close the gate as cattle & sheep roam freely around the village!
Location
Lapwings is located on Wester Loch Ewe, 4 miles from Poolewe in the crofting village of Inverasdale.
Linen & Equipment
The double bed has a continental quilt. All bed linen is supplied with hand towels, bath towels, kitchen towel & tea towels. There is a spare quilt, linen & towels in the chest in the living room for the sofa bed. The kitchen is stocked with washing up liquid, dishwasher powder, bin liners, kitchen towel & foil, cling film, & cleaning materials. Appliances In the galley kitchen area there is a fridge/freezer, dishwasher, electric coffee maker, kettle, toaster & sandwich maker. There is an electric cooker, with separate grill & oven. There is a television with a dvd player with library of discs (a video player can be provided on request), small hi fi system with cd player, hoover, iron & ironing board.
Garden & Shed
The large garden has a picnic table for the use of guests as well as a large pond with decking located just by the front door. Additional folding director's chairs and a small wrought iron table are also provided to be moved around the garden at your convenience. We have a large shed where bikes may be stored during your stay. The Indian Runner Ducks are very shy and will keep a bit of distance, but the chickens are quite friendly and will come to say hello to you. Half a dozen eggs will be left for you in your welcome pack and additional eggs may be purchased during your stay.
Swimming, Leisure & Golf
Inverasdale has its own beautiful sandy beach ideal for bathing and there is a small heated swimming pool at Poolewe. At nearby Gairloch there is a leisure centre located next door to the school. This has a fitness room and indoor court area. There are 9 hole golf courses at Gairloch, Ullapool to the north and Lochcarron to the south.
Petrol
The nearest petrol station is at Gairloch and there is also one at Laide, 2 miles north of Aultbea. Both these are closed on a Sunday. Petrol is also available at Kinlochewe, Achnasheen, Dundonell Hotel and Ullapool (these are open on a Sunday).
