SPORTS
AND REMEDIAL THERAPY CLINIC.
Welcome to STORM - SPORTS
THERAPY AND ORTHOPAEDIC REMEDIAL MEDICINE.
The aim of STORM is to provide a first class service for
anyone suffering from soft tissue trauma. Over 80% of all injuries are soft
tissue related - including back problems. The musculoskeletal system consists
of soft tissue - muscles, fascia, tendons and ligaments - which attach to the
skeleton across joints. Muscles, tendons and ligaments are therefore involved
in movement and posture. Fascia is the connective tissue that supports these
structures allowing movement between them and providing a pathway for nerves,
blood and lymph vessels. Damage to any of these soft tissue structures can
easily change from an acute problem to an on-going chronic one if left
untreated.
The key to successful injury rehabilitation depends upon a
number of factors.
· Correct assessment of the problem is crucial. At
STORM your first visit will involve a full and detailed clinical assessment
which can take as long as an hour. This will cover medical history, sport
specific information (if appropriate), injury assessment, specific and special
tests to isolate the soft tissue structures involved and neurological tests (if
appropriate). Whenever possible X-ray / MRI scans are viewed to back up any
clinical findings.
· Early treatment. The sooner an injury receives
correct treatment the sooner the injury will be rehabilitated.
· Good advice and remedial exercises play an
important role in soft tissue repair. At STORM you will be given detailed
information sheets designed to help you cope with your injury. Individual
exercises will be provided for you throughout your rehabilitation programme.
These will be printed out for you and fully demonstrated.
· At STORM your remedial treatments will include
the very latest cutting edge techniques for soft tissue trauma. These might
include (if appropriate), cryotherapy (ice massage), muscle energy techniques
(METS), soft tissue release (STR), proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation
(PNF stretches), lymphatic drainage techniques, deep friction work for scar
tissue and positional release techniques.
· STORM operates a referral system with other well qualified practitioners and
will suggest a different approach to treatment whenever necessary. Safe and
effective injury management is paramount.
Common soft tissue injuries or conditions that would benefit
from remedial therapy include:
Tendonitis / Muscle
and tendon tears
/ Nerve compressions / Sprains /
Inflammatory conditions
(arthritis) / Overuse injuries / Repetitive strain
injury (RSI) / Whiplash
/ Sciatica / Frozen shoulder
(adhesive capsulitis) / Sports injuries / Back pain / Ligament
rehabilitation (pre or post surgery) and many more.
Initial treatment including consultation is £50.00.
Follow-up treatments are £35.00.
