
STORM
RESEARCH PROJECT - SPORTS INJURY PROFILE.
There is very little
documentation in the field of diving related sports injuries - separate to DCI.
STORM research aims to be in the forefront of studies covering this important
aspect of diving physiology.
There are numerous sports
injuries common to divers that are of particular interest to STORM.
These include:
Nerve compressions, lesions,
neuralgias
Disc herniations and
compressions
Back lesions and trauma
Muscle tears
Joint problems
Inflammatory conditions (such
as tendinitis of the elbow)
Tendon ruptures (in
particular the Achilles tendon)
Ligament trauma
Any sports type injury that
gives symptoms such as altered sensation in the arms, legs or joints - for
example tingling, numbness, heat, pain but where decompression illness has been
ruled out.
