Introducing Nehemiah Education Services

earthing the academic and the spiritual and theological

Nehemiah Education Services was set up by Leslie Barker in 1996 while unemployed. It brings together under one heading a number of activities he was engaged in then, and others begun since.

These include giving illustrated talks on architecture, Christianity, and places visited, to church and community groups; leading studies on topics such as green issues; helping with training for cross cultural evangelism; and for the last year showing how easy it is to design and build a web site.

Nehemiah is also the name of Leslie’s house, which he called after Nehemiah who rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem after the exile – an exercise in community development which produced a physical result (walls and security) in preparation for Ezra’s spiritual teaching, which prepared the Jews for the eventual coming of the Messiah.

NES is likewise a community building enterprise serving churches and community groups, students and teachers, who cannot afford commercial rates. As far as possible the service is free.

Nehemiah can be seen either as an outside aid worker, or an in-house manager, and indeed many of their principles are the same - for example ownership of a project. NES is being restructured with Nehemiah being the overall management name, and with several divisions reflecting its breadth.

So computer graphics and other design work is by Bezalel Designs (Bezalel designed and built the Ark of the Covenant)

the teaching arm is Chezezra (at the house of Ezra the scribe who taught the people under Nehemiah)

and other computing is by HolyAbacus (work that out and email the answer to me!)
