The Commonweal 5 mile was a new race in 2012. Following the success of the well established Lethbridge 10k it seemed like a good idea to set up a similar race to raise money for the nearby Commonweal Secondary School. The next race will take place on Sunday 12th May at 10:30 with the race HQ at the School in the Mall.
There will be showers and changing facilities available at the school along with refreshments including homemade cakes!
The course has been amended slightly this year and will both start and finish on the school field. From the back of the school the race passes through Roman Crescent and Field Rise to join the Old Town Railway Path and then heads across the canal bridge near Rushy Platt before looping back along the recently opened link road towards Wichelstowe. The course weaves its way around the new lakes and alongside the new stretch of canal in Wichelstowe before a short climb up to the railway path and returning back to the finish line in the school’s playing field via footpaths between Field Rise and Roman Crescent.

Entry is open to everyone over the age of 15, but due to the quality of the running surfaces along certain stretches of the route, the race is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs. Entry costs £10 for unaffiliated runners and £8 for UKA affiliated runners. This is redulced for runners under the age of 18 to £6 un-affiliated and £4 for affiliated runners. Race numbers must be collected from the race HQ at Commonweal School on the day. The PTA will be serving refreshments and all monies raised from this event will go towards extra resources for the school.
