Reindeer Racing

The sport of reindeer racing is very popular in Finland and most of the competitions take place during the Easter festivals. Ski-jouring is when a skier holds onto a rope secured to the reindeer via a harness and the reindeer then pulls the skier along. Reindeer can run at a fast speed and it is not unual for the skier to be pulled along at 60kph. The reindeer are very competitive and are trained to get to the front of the race. There are also reindeer sledge races, where the reindeer pulls a person on a sledge round a race circuit.
