Golden Jubilee Celebrations in Castle Combe
The bunting hung playing field was the setting for Whitegates celebrations, organised by Hayley Gouch. With children enjoying a bouncy castle and picnics on the grass there was a great family atmosphere. Tea was followed in the evening by entertainment and a barbecue, the party finally breaking up in the early hours when happy revellers made their way home. |

At Westway Close celebrations centred on two bunting bedecked gazebos where the children enjoyed a tea party, and later and barbecue for all during the evening. The very successful occasion was a joint effort by the residents inspired by Sue Raymond. |
In the lower village, two seperate events took place. On
the Julbilee Sunday afternoon a Royal Garden Party was held in the lovely garden of
Weavers House. The sun shone on a throng of garden party goers delicately holding cups of
tea and plates of cucumber sandwiches to a background of music from the shows played by a
military band (a CD). |

On the Monday evening after cocktails, more than sixty persons sat down to a Jubilee Dinner in the village hall. Even the culinary expertise of Buckingham Palace chefs could not have better the fare which Pat and Allan Meakin prepared, cooked and then even cleared away. Their selfless efforts extended to the provision of waiter service, making the evening a most memorable and enjoyable occasion. A committee lead by Dinny Pollard organised both events. Raffles and collections realised £400 for the Jubilee Appeal for Commonwealth Veterans. (with thanks to Adrian Bishop) |
The Church was decorated with the most wonderful flowers in a Jubilee theme through-out the weekend and was admired by villagers and tourists alike. |
