Castle Combe News

PARKING IN THE VILLAGE
Please park and drive sensibly when you visit the village, there are now regular speed checks in the areas and parking checks on all days of the week, including evenings. Don't risk a £30/£60 fine for the sake of a few minutes walk. The double yellow lines are there for a reason; to provide sufficient space for pedestrians and vehicles to coexist in safety and to allow the bus service to reach the village, thank you.

VILLAGE ROAD CLOSURE

The road through the lower village will be closed at time from 7th - 10th April 2008 for filming.

UPDATE ON MUSEUM SAMPLER
The kind folks at www.rootschat.com have done an amazing job following up on the history of the sampler donated to the museum a couple of years ago. Read more here.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH SCHEMES
Two NWS are presently being set up to cover the upper and lower villages. The object is to urge vigilance by all residents in the prevention of crime, in particular to report any suspicious circumstances or individuals to either one of the schemes coordinators or the police. Information packs are available for distribution, please let your coordinator know if you do not receive one. When the scheme is up and running, a public meeting will be held to give further information. A coordinator is required for Whitegates, anyone interested contact 782250.

KEEP YOUR DOORS LOCKED, BACK AND FRONT
The owner of a house in Upper Combe recently found an intruder in their kitchen, obviously intent on a thieving expedition. He had entered by the unlocked back door, but on discovery took to his heels, nothing having been taken. This took place in the evening with the house occupied. Other reports of such criminal activity are known. Be warned. Keep your doors locked, even though you are in the house,
