Getting aroundWalking around the town is really the best way to get to know what Playa del Carmen has to offer. However, if you are keen to stray further afield you have a choice of various transport options: Autobuses Riviera ADO: Located on the corner of Avenida Benito Juárez and 5th Ave. Norte. This is a dependable scheduled service that runs all over the Yucatan area. This is a great option for daytrips to the Eco-Parks and Tulum, or for shopping in Cancun as well as for getting back to the airport. Ferry: Hop on a ferry to Cozumel. The ferries depart hourly and the journey will take about 45 minutes. Once you are on Cozumel you can hit the shops, or head south to the beaches for swimming and snorkelling to cool off in the heat of the day. Colectivos: An affordable way to travel, these are shared taxis which run down the coast. The main stand is located on 15th Ave and Calle 4. Bicycles to rent: Wheels on 10th Ave. There is another bike rental place on 1st Ave. between Calle 10 and 12. Taxis within town: A taxi ride in town will only cost a few pesos. We recommend that you confirm the cost with the driver before starting the journey. Driving: Hire car rental can be very expensive, and you should buy all the insurance they offer. The main roads in the area are excellent for driving, but driving at night can be very dangerous for a variety of reasons. Local roads can have substantial potholes. |
