Humbar Velvet (Bess)

Bess lived with Luke and Claire in the Midlands. Luke's mother Mary is a good friend of mine and she owns three cockers that have been bred by me so it is quite a family affair when we do get together! Bess sadly died at the age of 14 in March 2008 after a long and happy life.

In Loving Memory

Cocker Love

There's a love that lingers always
Deep within my heart
It's the love for cocker spaniels
Here's how it got its start
Bought a puppy, silky-coated
Eyes of brown that looked at me
Like he thought I was an idol
Showed his trust and faith in me
Stubby tail that wagged "Hello, there!"
Every time he heard my step
Fitted his mood right in with my moods
Quiet, or a lot of pep
Ears that gracefully extended
Quite a ways towards the ground
Chasing after balls; retrieving
Anything he found around
Gentle always with children
As he grew from puppyhood
Into the kind of dog folks
Liked throughout the neighbourhood
I'm a hunter and I love it
So did that first cocker pup
Didn't really have time to train him
He just seemed to pick it up
Years have passed, but still that puppy
In my heart has left his trace
For every time I lose a cocker
Another must take its place

Dexter

We bought a blue roan puppy to use at stud and when we took him to the vet for his vaccinations and check-up, he told us to return it immediately to the breeder as it had a severe heart murmur. Dexter, a blue roan and tan puppy was the second dog we bought to use as our stud dog - sadly he was tragically killed on 15/2/99 when he ran into the road. We still remember the pain of that morning when it happened - it was such a tragic waste. We decided that perhaps we weren't meant to have a stud dog.
