Haiku

----

Words, spoken kindly,
can heal wounds; words of abuse
can leave awful scars!

----

----

Tranquillity is
a dragonfly hovering
over still water.

----

----

If God loves sinners,
what gifts does he bestow on
those who are sinned upon?

----

----

Tranquillity is
clear water, gently trickling
over smooth brown stones.

----

----

I survey the beach;
envy couples holding hands;
I always walk alone!

----

----

In crept depression
-quietly, then left, quietly-
as the sun came out.

----

----

Sand sifts through my toes,
lapping sea then licks them clean.
Feet kissed, hands un-held!

----

----

Tranquillity is
small children rising early,
when they’re not your own!

----

----

Poverty of purse
is painful, but what hurt’s worse?
Poverty of mind!

----

----

Tranquillity is
watching flames flickering,
beside a log fire.

----

----

People sit alone,
at tables meant for two or four;
A crowd on their own!

----

----

Thank God for the man
who counted on his fingers!
Binary’s a pain!

----

----

Bonsai are small trees;
you alter them by pruning...
Insects stay the same!

----

----

Tranquillity is
a long, twisting stream as seen
from atop a high hill.

----

----

A flag rests limply
at its post, heavy, wet, still
Why wave for winter?

----

----

I procrastinate,
the grass and weeds grow longer.
Perhaps tomorrow!

----

----

The warm sun beckons.
‘Come, put on your green fingers!
Come, enjoy the sun!’

----

----

A flag, atop its post,
flutters in a warm breeze,
welcoming Summer.

----

----

Time ticked by slowly
while we were young; it speeds up,
as we grow older!

----

----

The next ant steps out,
over his brave, drowned brothers,
to cross the puddle.

----

----

The paint is peeling.
The house seems somewhat sad.
Does love lie inside?

----

----

A sharp beak tightens;
a worm falls, not to its death,
but to multiply.

----

----

Not to have made love-
young, sun-tanned, on a warm beach;
that’s the sorrow!

----

----

Tranquillity is
leaving sand-castles intact,
for the sea to smash!

----

----

Last words, I knew then;
as they echoed through my head-
‘Bye love... bye love... bye love...’

----

----

Poor trees, left naked;
exposed to frosts of winter;
wise you are, to sleep!

----

----

Water cascades down
to a lake, falls again to form
a deep, dark, cold pool.

----

----

Without sight or sound,
with neither words nor pictures,
how would you have dreams?

----

----

Never to do wrong,
it’s necessary, never
to do anything!

----

----

Tranquillity is
a gnarled old willow, weeping
at the water’s edge.

----

----

Immortal water
falls through time , erodes hard stone,
forms a deep, dark pool.

----

----

Infallibility
is a hindrance to wisdom;
one learns from mistakes!

----

----

Nature is unkind
to trees; wrapped warm in Summer,
left bare in Winter!

----

----

New leaves, tender yet-
cry out silently in fear-
of cruel wind and frost.

----

----

When death comes for me,
remind the undertaker,
I wear eye-liner!

----

----

I craft words with care,
transfer them tenderly to page.
They remain, unread!

Haiku is a Japanese verse form developed in the 15th and 16th centuries.  I'd never heard of it until a few years ago. I found them quite addictive, as you can tell.  I hope you find some of them thought provoking.
