To strike a match! Who would believe, when we set up school-
In my daughter’s bedroom; with a kitchen table and a comfy stool?
We breezed through French, English and History, without hesitation.
In Arithmetic, the ‘binary code’ caused me some consternation;
Wasn’t that the ‘tube-route’ of constipation? I felt such a fool!

I confess, we rushed Religious Education, broke our own rule-
Bunked off school and went shopping, while it was cool!
I hadn’t foreseen, it would need such determination-
To strike a match!

In Science, we saw the antics of ants, use one-another as a tool.
We saved ‘Keep-Fit’ for hot afternoons, splashing about in a pool!
For Cookery, she competently prepared a tempting creation-
Irish stew! It was cooking on gas that caused the frustration!
It took over an hour, a confrontation and a huge concentration of fuel-
To strike a match!

However, she recovered from the experience and went on to get a degree.  I was very proud.  If you have to educate your child at home, provided you put enough effort into it, you should both find it a memorable and worthwhile experience.

Nowadays, with the aid of T.V. and the Internet, there are a wealth of programs to assist you.  A notable one is B.B.C. Education, which I have included in my Links page.
