The Black Sheep Carving Company

About Us

Black Sheep Carving was set up as a family business by Iain and Liz Broadbent in 2002. Iain Broadbent studied at Dundee University in Scotland for 3 years where he gained a first class Art Degree. From there he proceeded to the Royal College of Art in London and gained a Masters Degree in Sculpture. Since 1999 he has been working as an Architectural Woodcarver in North Yorkshire, England.

The idea of The Black Sheep Carving Company came about after Iain began hand carving names into stools and rocking chairs for the children of friends as christening & birthday gifts. We saw the response we got and realised that people loved receiving something so personal that they and their young children could treasure for years to come. A piece of furniture which would come to have it´s very own history. Word of mouth spread and people began to contact us to ask for a stool or chair for their own child. It was at that point that we decided to form The Black Sheep Carving Company.

All of the carvings sold by Black Sheep Carving are hand carved and painted by Iain.
