Welcome to my Open University Web Site!

This personal academic web site gradually took shape during my studies with the Open University in 2001 when I did T171 "You, your computer and the net"

Please note that the format of T171 has changed from the course I did in 2001. Details can be found here
T171: You, Your Computer and the Net

UPDATE January 2005

Sadly, the very last presentation of T171 starts in February 2005 but it will be replaced by a new course
T175: Networked Living: Exploring Information and Communication Technologies
from October 2005. This new course is planned for presentation twice a year (February and October) until 2010.

In 2004, I took the thirty point level one course:
M150: Data, Computing and Information

This, combined with T171, gives me the
C47: Certificate in Information Technology and Computing

VERY IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER!

The temptation is great - but be aware that the Open University takes an extremely dim view of plagiarism (passing off someone else's work as your own). By continuing to access my website, you are signifying that you accept this and agree not to copy my work for your own purposes. I take no responsibility for your actions if you are found to have copied my work and submitted it to the OU as your own. That is cheating.

Index of Pages

Below you will find all the various webpages and assignments plus the End of Course Assessment that I produced during the T171 course, together with a personal page about my study with the OU and a page of links to specific sections of the OU website.
I did (briefly!) consider reformatting them all in a themed style but decided to let them stand as they were created/submitted. I hope this doesn't upset your artistic sensibilities too much.......

OU Level One course: T171 - You, Your Computer and the Net. Details of the course I did including a brief section on each of the three modules and one on the End of Course Assessment (T171 does not have an exam at the end - hurrah!)
My very first
OU home page!
My first attempt at a home page - complete with trendy black background and silver text - but the photo of me is cute, don't you think?
KJW99 Tutor Group Web Channel This is the Group Web Channel that I created for KJW99 Group One. It was a rather 'arty' gold medieval-style effort in the end - not terribly academic! (All the links worked at the time but will be dead ends now....)
TMA02 - Autism and Asperger Syndrome Web page that I actually submitted for Tutor Marked Activity 2. I chose the subject of Autism and Asperger Syndrome because my thirteen year old daughter is autistic. I received a mark of 85% for this work.
Autism and Asperger Syndrome.
(alternative web page)
Original web page that I was unable to submit for TMA02. Unfortunately, it has eight links and our Tutor only permitted us five which is why I had to create the shorter version above for the TMA.
KJW99 Tutor Group Activity 4 Web page that I contributed to the group website for this TGA. I chose to cover the five computer pioneers - Bob Noyce, Paul Allen, Dan Bricklin, Bob Metcalfe and Don Estridge.
TMA03 -
"Douglas Engelbart - a man ahead of his time"
Web report for TMA03. I chose Douglas Engelbart, best known as the inventor of the ubiquitous Mouse, and he proved to be a fascinating subject. Was very pleased with this report - resulting mark 94%!
TMA04 -
"UNIX and its influence on the Internet"
Web report for TMA04. I chose UNIX which was central to the development of the Web and its technologies. Was rather disappointed with the mark for this report - 83%.
My End of Course Assessment This proved to be quite a challenge and the final website comprised a total of 24 pages and 17 images. No formal OU feedback on this one because it takes the place of an exam. (Fingers crossed for good final marks in December!) Update: I got a Distinction for T171!
A little about me..... Just a page about me, how I came to be studying with the Open University and my impressions of my first year's study as an OU student.
Useful Open University Links As many links as I could gather leading directly to specific sections of the Open University website including its various Faculties, course descriptions, "Openings" courses and named degrees.
