T171 End of Course Assessment

| Exercises in Module 2 were designed to teach practical study skills such as creating an HTML study journal, taking notes, summarising notes, critical reading, concept maps and analysing current literature using the clear-thinking exercises which we read prior to the start of the course. I have chosen the creation of the HTML study journal. Each fortnight, students received a Study Guide by email which was used as the basis for the journal. The aim was to create a set of connected, hyperlinked notes using an HTML editor as a tool. We were instructed to use the journal as a ‘dumping ground’ to collect material while working. There was much discussion about the format of the study journal in the T171 conferences. Some students did not know how to open it in an HTML editor to add notes and some were confused by the use of tables in the email copy of the journal. A simpler, more straightforward format would have been easier for us to manage. The conferences were invaluable sources of information and discussion for less confident students. Being confident with HTML and able to tailor the study journal to my preferences, i.e using colour-coded notes, I found this exercise quite straightforward and helpful. I am aware that I do tend to write extensive notes and could, perhaps, cut down a little. This is something I will work on in the future. I also used the useful ‘e-Notes’ plug-in for Internet Explorer to collect links alongside the journal later in the course. Since I will be studying T209 next year, I expect this study skill to be useful to me in the future. |
