Performing Lucy has had over thirty years of experience working as a soloist, ensemble and orchestral player all over Europe and Central America. From 1977-1984 she worked for Yehudi Menuhin's organisation "Live Music Now". This included playing at an honorary presentation to Yehudi Menuhin at the Royal Institute of British Architects, recitals involving Anthony Hopkins, Jan Morris, John Gielgud and Yehudi himself, as well as hundreds of recitals for Arts centres, music clubs, festivals, schools, homes, hospitals, and prisons, in Britain, France and Holland. During 1982-1984 she freelanced as Piccolo player for Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet Orchestra under the direction of both Barry Wordsworth and Bramwell Tovey. Orchestral work as flautist and piccolo player has also continued with many other orchestras in the UK over the past twenty years and she has performed many concertos in the UK, Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico. Since leaving "Live Music Now" Lucy has continued to perform in recitals and ensembles with various groups, including many performances at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Summer schools, Universities, and music clubs, Embassies and on board ship for the Royal Navy. She has also continued to work abroad with a concert tour in Honduras in 1994 and a recital in Egypt in 1995. Whislt living in Edinburgh Lucy also formed a group called Ptarmigan (flute, cello and guitar) with whom she works for Music in Hospitals and also joined the MacAlasdair's Ceilidh Band with whom she performs weekly at the White Hart Inn in Edinburgh. For recitals Lucy works with the popular pianist Michael Lester-Cribb.

Teaching Lucy Cartledge has had thirty years of professional experience teaching privately at home and for various schools and universities, including several years at Oxford Polytechnic (now Oxford Brookes University), where solo performance of twentieth century music was at that time a major part of the degree course. She has given lecture recitals, workshops and master classes for numerous schools and Arts centres throughout Britain, Europe and Honduras, C.A. In 1987-1990, based in Honduras, experience included the setting up of a wind department at the "Escuela de Musica Victoriana Lopez" (the country's foremost specialist music school), the coaching of woodwind players in the Symphony Orchestra of Honduras, teaching individuals and giving master classes in all three of the country’s music schools and coaching for four youth music camps. Whilst
based in Edinburgh teaching experience continued, mainly working with
individuals and chamber music groups from Edinburgh and Napier Universities
and also for the Lothian Region, the music department of George Watson's
College and until June 1996, for the Saturday morning department of St Mary's
Music School.
COURSES: Teaching has also included flute coaching and master classes for: The Thames Vale Youth Orchestra, Youth Music camps in Honduras, The Lothian Region Orchestras, Edinburgh Youth Orchestra, Stowe Summer School, Oxford Flute Summer School, Brunel University weekend courses, Hitchen Arts Centre weekend courses, Matrix Music School, Abingdon, Oxon, directing and teaching for British Flute Society and FLUTEWISE workshops. This year she will be giving a master class for the University of Southern Mississippi.
