Paradise Lost were one of those bands that you knew the name of, or at least you thought you knew the name, but didn't know what they sounded like. These days they produce some of the best produced and thoughtful albums you are likely to hear.

Then you heard 'As I Die' and that settled things one way or the other. For me I was luck enough to be into them from just before this single hit. I played 'Shades of God' to death (In fact its on my stereo right now) and it hard to imagine that the band that produced some of the doomiest music of its day went onto produce albums like 'Host' and 'Believe in Nothing'.

These guys have the staying power even when the establishment have lost interest and are no longer supporting them.
