| For my
first season at racing it went pretty well,it started off
slow engine problems but they got ironed out as the
season progressed, I received my first trophy at Cadwell
park in April for 3rd place and when we returned back to
Cadwell Park a month later, I found that Pete Askew was
absent due to an accident at Cadwell park a week earlier
while leading the race. This left me & Colin Teagle
to do our best & regain our points from Petes lead,
but Colin crashed out leaving me to pick up my first,1st
place trophy. Next race Colin had repaired his bike but
he was still shaken, leaving me to take 1st place in the
championship race. But still not enough points to close
on Pete Askew. There was a 3 month break before our next meeting with Newera so I decided to race with Bemsee during the break, my first meeting at Mallory Park was disasterous ending in me losing my front end at the hairpin on my 2nd lap resulting in my mate Dave making a quick repair to the rear brake lever while I went to scruitineering ready for the next race. Next race was no better but at least I managed to finish the race. The next meeting was back at Mallory once again for Newera with the return of Pete Askew from injury and once again taking 1st prize in the first two races. Race one saw me demoted from second to fourth at the hairpin in a battle with Colin Teagle & Pete Fishwick on the last lap. Second race I came in 3rd collecting more points for the championship. The last race I was running in 3rd place with the rain pouring down when on the last lap the bike packed up. My mate David Higgs raced his first ever race on Yamaha 350 YPVS but crashed out on the last lap coming out of the Bus Stop. Next meeting with Bemsee at Snetterton was not much better as I had a problem with the front suspension, But at the end of the day I managed to finish 8th out of about 20, finishing not far behind Pete Askew. The next meeting took me and Dave all the way to Pembrey in Wales, both of us in different races. Dave managed to finish all three of his races taking a slight detour in one of the races. I managed to pick up a 3rd place trophy in the first race, second race I came last taking the same detour as Dave across the grass. On the sunday I walked away with two 3rd place trophies but managing to make a hash of my championship race and coming 5th. This was to be an unfortunate end to my season as I managed to receive an unforseen foot injury. I,d like to thank Pete Askew, Pete Fishwick, Colin Teagle & David Higgs for helping me through my first season. Also Newera & Bemsee in the organisation of the meetings, and my girl friend Vanda for putting up with me. |
