April66 Ushaw Moor Viaduct Copyright © Roy Lambeth. All Rights Reserved Memories of this location submitted by Brian McLoughlin "There were originally two spans at this location. I cannot remember the bridge nearest to Ushaw Moor being in use, all traffic used the bridge nearer to New Brancepeth. The sound of the timbers groaning as they took the weight of a fully laden coal train weighing hundreds of tons was frightening to us kids. We would dare each other to stand under the bridge as a train crossed above and your heart pounded at the thought of the bridge collapsing on top of you under the weight of the train. It never did! The embankment between the bridge and Ushaw Moor Station was covered in raspberry bushes and the fruit tasted lovely, worms and all. In those days during and just after the war fruit was an unseen luxury." read more MEMORIES >>>> HERE <<<< Please use form below to give additional info about this PHOTO. |
