If
your book is longer than 125,000 words, please contact
us to discuss it.
We
deal preferably on computer count, - if you prefer - or traditional word count
(ie: count the number of words on a representational selection of pages, divide
by the number of counted pages to obtain an average, and multiply by the total
number of pages in your typescript).
Biography, autobiographies, ghost-writing, self publishing editorial
work and non-fiction tasks are met with detailed proposals. This would be
quoted by individual consideration which would be based on the level of work
involved. We would require an outline of the work, the anticipated target
audience and publisher, the anticipated overall wordage or scope, and a sample
chapter so the task could be clearly identified. Please contact us for an
estimate.
We
would require a non-refundable fee of £50 to cover the production of the
proposal, which would be in the form of a critical analysis, in itself a
worthwhile receipt should you choose not to go ahead.
Submission format:
- The work should be double spaced and typed on one side only of
white A4 paper.
- Pages should be consecutively numbered, and identified by author or
title.
- Enclose a front sheet detailing the title of the work, your name and
address. Complete and enclose our Submission Form.
Keep a copy of your work.
- Please enclose return postage and a sticky label suitable for the
return of your work. We do not dispose of unwanted manuscripts, and our readers
often edit part or whole of the text, so it will need to be returned to
you.
- Please also note that clients from outside the United Kingdom should
enclose their remittances in the form of sterling cheques, and also enclose
sufficient International Reply Coupons (IRCs) for return postage. (This
requirement applies to the Channel Islands and to the Irish Republic, but not
to Northern Ireland.)
- Other than using elastic bands, do not bind or staple your work in any
way. If you wish to use a folder, card is preferable to plastic.
- Enclose the work in a good quality padded envelope. Do not use boxes,
brown wrapping paper, bubble wrap, packing beans, or any other kind of
innovative packaging.
- Please use a label to address the work to StorytrackS - if you
write all over the parcel in large letters, it makes posting it back to you
rather awkward!
- Send by normal post office service rather than courier. We suggest you
get proof of posting - free at a post office. Works rarely go astray, but if
you wish to be assured of its safe arrival you may enclose a pre-paid card to
this effect which will be returned to you upon its delivery to Storytracks. You
can request proof of delivery, but this may delay our response.
- We
try to complete appraisals within four weeks of receipt, but this may not be
possible at all times. Please allow four weeks before querying. If we feel a
delay is inevitable we will endeavour to keep you informed.
Genre
list:
Every
book is different, but please try to classify your work as nearly as possible
to an identifiable genre. This will help us to decide who is best suited to
appraising the work. If you feel your novel conforms to a 'known' category
which has not been listed, such as Chick Lit or Aga Saga, feel free to use that
term.
