LABEL VARIETIES FOR ANNE HATHAWAY
TOP LEFT version 1-1, I would suggest that this cottage is grey dip, single line back stamp, 326 grams.*
TOP CENTRE version 1-1C1, single line back stamp, 348 grams.*
TOP RIGHT version 1-1C1,single line back stamp, 250 grams.**
BOTTOM LEFT version 1983-1, 1983 back stamp, 274 grams.
BOTTOM CENTRE version 1983-1, 1983 back stamp, 376 grams.
BOTTOM RIGHT version 1984-1, 1984 back stamp, 407 grams.
Please note the significant variation in colour of these pieces, the top centre and bottom left ones also show, concave edge, it must be said that the top right, has the shape of a banana, but you will notice the substantial different weight, similar to those of the six varieties of William Shakespeare
Finally those marked with:-
* are the same moulds, because they have the same flaws on the right hand edge of the thatch and matching marks on the left hand edge of the base, but the model in the centre is a full 3mm smaller all the way down and tends to show the curve.
** has the same distinct marks on the left hand edge, but has other marking showing that it is a totally different mould.
Originally I was of the opinion that there were two distinct moulds with straight and concave edges as demonstrated with William Shakespeare. In in discussion with Don Gibson, co author of The Pocket Guide to Lilliput Lanes Cottages, at a recent Annual Fair, he expressed the view, that for some unknown reason the shape of the cottage with the curved edges, was as a result of mould distortion caused by sagging as the result of mould weakening over a period of time. The discovery of a third banana type Anne Hathaway, would suggest that this mould distortion theory is in my opinion unfounded given also, this does not explain, why a larger based cottage No1 above, is lighter than a smaller cottage, No2 above, as this was prior to the known time when David Tate was experimenting with the casting material. This must therefore be considered as an ongoing anomaly similar to that seen with my examples of Coach House.
