Ever in demand for his skills on wooden flute,
whistles and bouzouki, Mark Evans is now breaking new musical ground with DisKan. Based around the Welsh
borders, DisKan combines the traditional
dance rhythms of Ireland, Brittany and the Balkans in a wonderful musical
ensemble of fiddle, flute, guitar, bouzouki and double bass. The songs are
primarily from the traditions of England, Scotland and Ireland and include
well-loved arrangements from Mark’s acclaimed CD A Rival Heart. One to watch (and hear), DisKan will be much in demand for performances in the coming years. DisKan are Ivan Miletitch (guitar, bouzouki), Nick Jones (fiddle) and Mark Evans. They are joined for select performances by
double bass player Marc Miletitch, accordionist Karen Tweed and fiddler John Langstaffe.
As a collective they produce a powerful,
spirited and textured sound, rich in imagination, innovation and
tradition. A mighty debut album
from one of the most exciting traditional bands to emerge from the UK in a
long, long
time”. Kevin
Crawford, Lunasa …a
deep sense of empathy, comradeship, understanding and musicianship… I
loved this CD for its songs, which are sung and arranged wonderfully, and its
tunes, which are played with great respect and knowledge. Siobhan

" Mark Evans delights
and excites with a powerful combination of traditional ballads, laments and love
songs from Britain and Ireland and driving Irish dance music...an evocative
tapestry, beautifully and masterfully woven. The instrumental and vocal
arrangements are simply stunning, with outstanding performances by a host of
virtuoso guest musicians..."
