The Racal range of accessories is an excellent example of this latter category.

The purpose of this unit,manufactured during the 1960’s by the Racal company in England,and which uses vacuum tube circuitry, was to solve the problem of successfully operating HF receivers in close proximity to high-power transmitters,not only to reduce break-through,but to prevent physical and electrical damage to the receivers.A further benefit which results from the insertion of the MA.197 between the antennae and the receiver input,is the resulting high degree of pre-selection.An unwanted signal 5% off-tune has an attenuation of 80dB in the range of 2-24Mc’s,and in that range the RACAL MA197 will protect receivers from burn out due to excessive input,since it will withstand without damage,r.f.,e.m.f’s,of up to 40 volts.The unit can be used with single receivers,but also in any installation where common aerial working systems are employed.The unit is designed for rack mounting into a standard 19" rack.Externally,with the exception of some minor corrosion of the chrome plating on the front panel handles,the unit is in good original condition.It is in very good original electrical condition and has not been modified in any way.Power requirements are 200-250 or 100-125 volts ac.The pre-selector protection unit is in working order and a copy of the manufacturers handbook and circuit diagrams is included.The price of the unit is $480 US Dollars,which includes the cost of air freight to the USA.

Racal MA350 Synthesiser, for Racal RA117 Receivers & Racal MA79 TX Drivers

This very scarce item of Racal equipment, provides an accurate means of frequency control ,for both the Racal MA79 Transmitter Driver(a vacuum tube unit,details of which can also be found in the Radio Exports.Com ,accessories pages)and also for accurate and stable frequency control of Racal RA117 HF Receivers.The equipment is fully transistorised and provides frequency setting in increments of 100kc’s,10kc’s,1kc’s and 100c/s.Frequency stability is quoted by Racal as plus or minus 1 part in 10,000,000.The synthesiser has decade setting controls,an interpolation oscillator control calibrated in 100 divisions(useable on the 10kc’s,1kc’s and 100c/s divisions),a lamp to indicate the frequency locked state and a meter showing the locking conditions for each decade and also the output level.Power requirements are 100-125 or 200-250 volts ac.The synthesiser is 8.75" high and designed to fit into a standard 19" rack.It is 19" deep.The weight is 60lbs.Aside fropm a small scratch under the kc’s setting switch and a similar mark to the side of the right hand chrome handle,the unit is in good original condition.It has not been modified and is in working order.A copy of the Racal handbook for this synthesiser,is included.The price of this very scarce synthesiser is $765 US Dollars,which includes the cost of air freight to the USA.
