Argentinian Army Communications Receiver Model 8722A

argi8722aft.jpg (25367 bytes)An unusual receiver and one with a very interesting provenance,as it was apparently taken as a trophy of war, by a British soldier, from the battlefield at the time of the Falklands War between Britain and Argentina. This is a transistorised communications receiver, made by Compania Standard Electrica,Argentina.Coverage is from 1.5Mc’s to 18Mc’s in 4 switched ranges. The circuit incorporates switched selectivity,B.F.O.,A.V.C.,Calibrator and the receiver is fitted with an internal speaker.Operation is from 12volts D.C. and the set has a battery compartment designed to accommodate 8 standard 1.5volt D cells. One of the small metal control knobs is missing from the front panel.Apart from some minor corrosion on the chassis, the communications receiver is in very good condition.A detachable metal front cover, designed to protect the control panel, which is not shown on the photograph,is with the receiver. The serial number is 006,so this example must have been one of the very first of these receivers to have been made. This communications receiver is in working order. The price is $395 U.S.Dollars,which includes air freight to the USA.

R109 British Army Communications Receiver

r109ft.jpg (28322 bytes)This receiver is not encounted very often. It uses 8 tubes (valves) and requires a power supply of 6volts at 5amps.Coverage is from 2Mc’s to 12Mc’s in 2 ranges. The receiver is fitted with an internal speaker and has jacks on the front panel, for headphones. One the rare occasions when these sets are found, the pull off tray, designed to facilitate storage of spare valves, has invariably been lost,or thrown away by the military operator who could not be bothered to replace it.Obviously this would not effect the operation of the receiver, but it does detract from the completeness of the originality.Fortunately, the storage tray(empty),is still with this particular receiver.Internally, the set uses a 6volt vibrator and a spare vibrator is also provided, plugged into its storage clip inside the receiver.Apart from some quite minor corrosion around some of the front panel screws, the external condition is good and the internal condition is all original and very good. The communications receiver is in working order. The price is $410 U.S.Dollars which includes air freight to the USA.

Magneta-"Naffi" Receiver.

ww2naffift.jpg (25578 bytes)These receivers were standard issue during World War 2,to British Royal Air Force Stations, where they were installed in the dining halls, known as "Naffi’s".

They were listened to by flying crews (and everyone else who was hungry !),to monitor the progress of the war, via BBC civilian broadcasts. The nostalga value is high, but the technology is low, being the standard 5 tube (valve) circuit, in common use at the time.Coverage is by 3 switched ranges,LW 800 to 1850 mtrs,SW 15 to 55 Mtrs, and MW 200 to 530 Mtrs. There is minor surface corrosion to about 20% of the chassis, which means that the inside would benefit in appearance from a little restoration and at some time the cabinet has been refinished.Externally,it is a smart looking example of this wartime radio receiver. Please note that this receiver requires a mains supply of 240/250 volts AC .The radio is in working order. The price is $265 U.S.Dollars,which includes air freight to the USA.
