GOBLIN Model TIME SPOT Receiver.
A nice set ,made in 1947,which it seems
all collectors of mid 19th century radios, would like to have in their
collections..For a start, its pedigree is somewhat unusual, the receiver having been
made by the British Vacuum Cleaner Engineering Company Ltd.It is of course an early
example of a
clock-radio,with an alarm setting feature. The design is particularly attractive, with the
curved top and speaker grill sweeping elegantly down to the 2 central dials.Between the
dials are two thumb-wheels,the left hand wheel being used to set the alarm and the right
hand wheel being the volume control. The volume level can be observed numerically through
the small round window, which can be seen at the 9 oclock position on the right hand
dial.In addition to the wavechange, tone and tuning controls, there is is a control which
selects off/radio/auto(alarm on).Frequency coverage is LW 1900-800 metres,MW 200-550
metres and SW 15-50 metres. The receiver is in all original condition and the wooden
cabinet is attractively pattinated by a "crackled" effect on the old varnish
finish.Power requirements are 200-250 volts ac.The clock runs "only when it feels
like it"and would probably respond well to a little attention and lubrication
perhaps? The receiver itself, however, is in working order. The price is $645 US
Dollars, which includes the cost of air freight to the USA.
AMPLION Model PA512 Domestic Receiver
A British made receiver, having the
appearance of having been manufactured during either the late 1940s or
1950s.The dial has a quasi Art Deco feel to it,though the set dates from a later
period.Coverage
is 2000-800 metres on LW,200-550 metres on MW and 13-49 metres on SW.The receiver is in
all original condition. The finish on the wooden cabinet is a "little tired" and
is probably about average for the age of the receiver.Internally, there is some minor
corrosion of the metal-work.The receiver requires a mains power supply of 200-250 volts
ac.It is in working order. The price is $195 US Dollars, which includes the cost of air
freight to the USA.
