R1155 Receiver at radio-exports.com
A classic tube receiver from the WWII era, used by the British Royal Air Force,
(typically, in the Lancaster Bomber) and designed as a companion for the T1154
Transmitter. The receiver provides communications and direction finding facilities. The
receiver circuit uses 10 tubes.Several modified versions of the set were produced, such as
the R1155A,R1155B etc.,which all embody the same basic circuit .Frequency coverage is 18.5
to 3.0 Mc/s,1500 to 600 kc/s and 500kc/s to 75kc/s,with the exception of Types R1155Land N
which cover 18.5
Mc/s
to 600kc/s and 500kc/s to 200kc/s.All versions have an IF of 560kc/s.In its original use
the receiver obtained power from a rotary converter or from a transformer/rectifier for
ground station use.Power requirements are 6.3 volts at about 4 amps and 230 volts at
70mA.A point to note is that in the receiver, HT negative is not connected to the
chassis, but has a resistor interposed. Thus if HT negative is joined to chassis in the
power supply and the receiver chassis touches the power supply chassis, the bias resistor
will be short circuited (and damage will result!Simple solution-do not ground HT negative
in the power supply).Audio output is 200mW into 5k ohms.Examples of the R1155 which have
not been modified (typically by removal of the DF components) are increasingly difficult
to find. However, the good news is that we usually have a good selection of sets in
unmodified, original condition. The price guide for these receivers, which includes the cost
of air freight to the U.S.A.,is $485 U.S. Dollars.
