The Racal 1772 is a high-grade ,general –purpose, solid state communications receiver.

Frequency coverage is from 15khz-30MHz by switchable 1MHz steps and a continuously tunable synthesiser in 10Hz or 100Hz steps over each 1MHz band,with an overspill of 20kHz at the end of each 1MHz band.Tuning accuracy is +or – 5Hz relative to the wanted signal.Antenna input is 50-75 ohms nominal.Sensitivity on CW and SSB is 1microV for the range 500kH to 30MHz.IF filters with the following passbands are fitted; 0.3,1.2,3.0 and 13 kHz.The BFO range is +or – 3kHz,variable by slow motion control.A range of audio outputs is provided,from 1mW into 600 ohms, to 1W into 8 ohms.The communications receiver is fitted with the optional FSK Demodulation board allowing reception of shifts in the range 85Hz to 850Hz ,at a maximum speed of 200 bauds.Telegraph output at 6-0-6 or 80-0-80 volts at 100mA for polar use,or by rear panel switch,for single current operation.Mark/space reversal and a "tune" switch are provided, for tuning of the receiver without operating the teleprinting equipment ,in situations where this is in use in order to provide hard copy.A front panel meter is fitted to indicate RF level,AF level,FSK tune,and suitable performance or supply level tests.The following front panel controls are fitted;MHz Control,kHz Frequency selection by rotary VFO type control,Tuning rate switch,RF Tune,AGC,,Mode Switch,Meter Switch,Meter,Loudspeaker & Switch,Headphone Jacks,IF Gain,AF Gain,BFO,Line level presets,Filter Switch and On/Off Switch.Comprehensive rear panel connections are available as follows; Antenna,Antenna Fuse,Mains In & Fuse,Mains Voltage adjust,Standby 12 volt fuse,Teleprinter fuse,Te;leprinter supply voltage selector,Teleprinter Polar/Neutral Switch,34MHz In/out,34 MHz internal/External,IMHz In /Out,frequency Standard Int/Ext Switch,Local Osc In/out,local Osc Int/Ext.Switch,AGC ( for diversity),Loudspeaker Out,Mute Line,FSK,Standby +12 volts In and out,and 1.4 MHz IF out.
