This military receiving set-up,of British
manufacture, dates from around the end of WWII.The manual describes the set as a
high-performance superheterodyne communications receiver capable of high resetting
accuracy.The
PSU and the LF Adaptor are separate from the main receiver and the psu contains a small
loudspeaker.Frequency coverage on the main receiver,in 6 bands, is as follows;30-20
Mc/s,20-10mc/s,10.1-4.8 Mc/s,4.8-2.2Mc/s,2.2-1.1 Mc/s and 1.1-0.55Mc/s.Three additional
ranges are provided by the adaptor,viz;0.6Mc/s 260kc/s,260kc/s-115kc/s and 115kc/s
50kc/s.The IF is 465 kc/s.The PSU, which feeds the receiver, requires a supply of
110-240 volts a.c. or 12 volts d.c.Front panel controls include; Main Tuning with Fast
& Slow positions,Range Control,Oscillator Vernier Control,AE Trimmer,RF
Gain,Bandwidth,(0.7kc/s,2.5kc/s and 8kc/s),AVC On/Off,CW/RT,BFO,AF Gain,AF Filter,Limiter
In/Out, andPower on/off .The circuit uses 10 valves (tubes). The Adaptor is designed to
take its HT (B+) and heater supplies from a socket outlet at the back of the receiver. It
has been changed to incorporate its own self contained power supply running on 240
volts a.c.It is presumed
that a purchaser would remove this internal addition and restore
the Adaptor to the original system, with a supply lead to the back of the main
receiver. This equipment is of very impressive appearance, being both large and heavy ,due
to the good quality engineering (the turret tuning system, for example,is massive). The
Power supply and Adaptor both weigh around 50 lbs each, which is light, when compared with
the main receiver, which weighs in at 120 lbs.To give some idea of size, the receiver alone
is 25" wide x 12.5" high x 14.75" deep.General condition is about average
for the age of the equipment. The receiver front panel has at some time been tastefully
cleaned up.The receiver and power supply are both uncased and in consequence, the interior
of both is in need of a thorough clean. The adaptor is cased. An operating manual and
circuit diagrams are included for the receiver and the psu. This equipment has
"presence" and will look good in any collection. The equipment is in working
order. The price, which includes the not- inconsiderable cost of air freight to the USA, is
$980 US Dollars.
