WIRELESS SET No.36 (Vintage AM Transmitter)

British Wireless Set No.36, is a circa 1940's military AM transmitter, the original purpose of which was to provide radio links between the various points throughout an Anti-Aircraft Defense System. The frequency coverage is from 10-60 Mc's in three bands, selected by changing sets of plug-in coils and not by switching. Two coil sets are supplied with this ws36txft.jpg (18605 bytes)equipment, viz 10-20 Mc's and 20-40 Mc's.Provision is made for CW,MCW and RT.The Wireless Se No.36 consists of 2 units,an RF unit and a combined modulator and power supply. The RF unit comprises a Master Variable Oscillator with the facility for crystal control if required,Frequency Doubler and Power Amplifier. The RF unit uses a total of 8 vacuum tubes. The oscillator, doubler and p.a. use a total of 4 off,807's,two EM31 magic eyes are used to facilitate accurate tuning of the rf unit and a pair of S130 stabilisers are used to enhance frequency stability.A facility using a neon indicator to show over-modulation is incorporated in the rf unit, although the neon tube itself,is absent. The Power supply and Modulator unit comprises an af oscillator for MCW,which also serves to amplify speech from the microphone and a rectifier and smoothing system to provide HT(B+).The af oscillator and modulator use 3 off 6C5 tubes and 2 off 807's and there are 3 off FW4-500 rectifying tubes. The 2 units are designed to be linked together by a multi-core cable with multi-pin plugs at each end. This is included with the set.(It would probably be prudent to check this cable, in view of the age and the fact that rubber covered conductors may have been used, which could well be perished,not-with-standing, that it tests OK).With the exception of a number of high wattage resistors which have been replaced, the equipment is in original condition.Included with the Wireless Set 36 are the original telephone handset and the correct Dummy Antenna(which can ws36psumod.jpg (27533 bytes)be seen in the picture, plugged into the rf unit at the top left hand side). The wireless set is in working order. This is"big and beautiful"and very heavy style equipment and it is presumed that an intending purchaser would rack the units for convenience of use. However,it was originally housed in extremely heavy, very well built solid oak boxes, which are available, at no extra cost for the equipment, provided the purchaser pays for the additional costs of freight for the boxes, as indicated below. Finally, please note that this Wireless Set No.36 was intended for use with Receiver Type R208,which you will note,we also have available ,should you wish to have the complete original package. The price for the Wireless Set No.36 is $985 US Dollars which includes the cost of air freight to the USA.If the 2 oak cabinets are also required, please add a further $165 US Dollars to the above price (Total $1150 US Dollars).
