Your apartment is situated in Calahonda, Costa del sol (Mijas Costa), Spain. Calahonda is known locally as Little England because of its popularity with the British both for holidays and as a retirement destination. English is spoken in most local establishments.
The local area has retained much of its natural beauty and views because of planning regulations which prevent new buildings being built higher than three floors above ground level. Your apartment is on the ground floor and has easy access.
Your apartment is situated in a community of apartments within private tropical community gardens where you have access to the three swimming pools.
The local park is approximately three minutes stroll from your apartment.
The local shopping complex is approximately five minutes stroll from your apartment. There you will find supermarkets, a chemists, souvenir shops, a bank (with service till), bars and restaurants.
Whilst there is a small beach approximately seven minutes walk from the apartment it is not very well appointed so we recommend that you take the trouble to make the five minute drive to the beach at Puerto Cabopino. There you will find a long sandy beach, various water activities and a beach bar.
Calahonda has is own harbour, Puerto Cabopino, which is a quaint harbour with several bars / restaurants. At Puerto Cabopino you will find a large sandy beach where there are facilities for several water sports. While the kids are playing on the beach you could always partake of lunch or sip your favourite tipple at the adjacent beach bar. If you do visit Puerto Cabopino then a visit to Albert's Restaurant on the harbour front is highly recommended by the locals. The food is excellent and usually served from breakfast until evening meal.
In Calahonda you can find virtually everything that you will need. There are three shopping precincts, several banks, numerous restaurants and bars, three supermarkets, pharmacies, medical centres, car rental, Post Office, bureau de change and a "tourist train" which travels through much of the local area and to the shops. The nearest shopping precinct is about five minutes stroll from your apartment. Whilst we find that there is plenty to do within walking distance this is obviously a matter of personal choice, we recommend that you hire a car so that you can fully explore and enjoy the area.
