Hornby castle

June 10th & 11th  2006

Held in the grounds of Hornby Castle, Lancashire, it was another fantastic weekend, with a great turn out of vehicles and re-enactors. A very loud dance in the newly refurbished  Hornby Village Institute on the Saturday night. a great weekend for everybody. We had 2 runs out, each having in excess of 30 vehicles in each, mostly jeeps, but REO's and Dodges alike, all took part.

Hornby Castle, Lancashire, Nr Kirkby Lonsdale... Inclusive in the entry ticket was a climb to the top battlements, just below the flag... great view!!!

A partial view of the camp site from the top of the castle, the trees to the left obscure a line of jeeps and Gazs' and GMCs, the trees to the right is our encampment, nice and cool under the trees. The first big tent in the foreground is a huge Aid Station layout, complete with injured GI on a bed with wounds and all, ( ok , it was a shop mannequin with a helmet on).....  but looks great. I will try and fins a photo , I forgot to take one.....

NOTE   Look at the central line of vehicles, the one furthest away is an amphibious GAZ, Russian copy of the U.S. Amphibious jeep, the Seep, but bigger.  There are only a handful still about. And this one is in excellent condition and still swims.

It was a very hot 2 days, so much of the time was spent under the dining shelter. Phil's Dodge ambulance, my Willys MB and Rupert's Dodge.

Andrew showing that he has had his 2 weetabix this morning.   And the Home Guard  were ever present all weekend.

Rupert's Dodge and Simon's Dodge....
