4 pole AV connector

I have had numerous requests for suppliers of this connector, to date the options are as follows*:

*Since I first posted this page in May 2000 the 4 pole jack has become commonplace. You'll now get them at a great many electronics retailers.

Post Script I: It has come to my attention that there are a couple of variations on the above pin-out. The illustration above seems to be by far the most common implementation, and is correct for Sony devices. However, it would appear  that Panasonic use a different pin out thus:

Pin number

Description (Panasonic ?)

1 Right Audio
2 A&V Ground
3 Composite Video
4 Left Audio

and to further complicate matters, I've had hold of a lead with the following pin out, though I am unsure of which device it was designed for:

Pin number

Description (Archos and others?)

1 Right Audio
2 Left Audio
3 A&V Ground
4 Composite Video

Postscript II Jan '05: Martin Conan informs me this configuration is used by Archos on their video walkman. This setup is chosen to be compatible with conventional stereo headphones when the unit is being used in audio only mode. Thanks Martin!

Pin number

Description (Unknown)

1 Composite Video
2 Left Audio
3 Right Audio
4 Ground

Postscript III Jun '06: Garth Jenkinson of Melbourne informs me Telefunken is selling a DVB Micro Set Top Box, in Australia, model TDR986 which uses the pinout above. When is a standard not a standard? When it's a four pole jack!
