Poulton Historical Society was formed in 1981 by the Minister of Poulton United Reformed Church - Revd. David Wiseman who, having compiled two books of photographs of old Poulton, thought there might be sufficient interest in the town to start a society.
Since its beginning the Society has built up an important collection of material relating to the history of Poulton and the surrounding area, including Hardhorn, Staining, Singleton, Thornton etc through the generosity of many local people.
The Committee are always pleased to know of any material of local interest such as photographs, books, maps or newspapers which may be loaned or donated to the Society. The archives are used extensively for research into the history of the area and for exhibitions and displays promoting the history of Poulton-le-Fylde.
The Society is a member of the Lancashire Local History Federation. In 1998, in the light of its increasing interest in the conservation of the town centre, Poulton Historical Society took on a further role and became in addition a Civic Society. In the same year it became affiliated to the Civic Trust
The Society meets in CARLETON in the Church Hall of St Martin and St Hilda's, next to the Castle Gardens.
