sue,
was curious about your comments about making life rather than art. Don't
think there is such a seamless distinction for me. and in fact I think
I'm quite interested in the strange ambiguous 'place' that practice (art
making etc.) is.
That's partly what for me this project is about.
Again it goes back to all the stuff about fluids and thresholds and bridges,
in that making art or writing is for me a kind of insticial space between
'real life' and some kind of 'creative gesture'. I like the terminology
associated with this place/practice, 'work', 'making', etc. - there is
a sense of doing something very practical and constructing or reconstructing
out of everyday experience (sometimes more literally than others) art/writing
works that open up to others the less tangible, sensible or useful aspects
of that 'experience'.
I think in that sense I am less interested in representation or any kind
of depiction of 'real life' and more interested in work that provokes
'life' out of me because it essentially configures another space/place
in which to experience that life.
Does this make any sense?
(this is what comes from having time to think about things!)
more anon,
bests B
