20.03.00 - 21.03.00 : stein/living in books |
||
after the talk on haroldo de campos we went to the vietnamese restaurant. the conversation was about new projects, new books. craig said something about a book on paranoia and writing and mentioned a friend who, in her paranoid fits, would perceive all around saying things to her. I said that maybe she was right and that things are always saying things to us. isn't that the very idea of language? anything can form a system of signifiers not necessarily signifying anything. I said about this text (imitation) that I have been working on for quite a while and that begins by denying stein, and I said my text begins a rose is not a rose a rose shoots out from a branch. than julia asked if my text was about causality and I said no it is about everything being together I belive everything is together and that we can't just isolate a little part of the whole thing (of the speech?) or maybe we can but that will not make things much easier. and I said maybe a rose is just a question mark at the end of this long sentence that is the rose bush. and than she said that I live in a book. but than she had already said that dante also lived in a book. she was refering to la vita nuova and yes it is possible that dante lived in a book. for me the selva selvaggia e aspra e forte is a pretty good description of language. and than I realise that stein did not like question marks so perhaps I am insulting stein by saying that her rose is a question mark. but I did not mean to insult stein. Sergio Tuesday 21st. March what's it like, living in a book? Brigid |
