- I INVENT NARRATIVES/LIFE-STORIES/PICTURES OF AND FOR "YOU", > SOMETHING
FAR BEYOND THE WORDS ON THE SCREEN (THOUGH IT'S > ONLY THROUGH THEM THAT
I CAN DO THIS) - I PLACE "YOU", BUT > OF COURSE THAT PLACE IS IN MY MIND.
I ASSUME THAT THAT IS > WHAT EVERYONE DOES Yes, of course.
The only people in this group that I have a "real" picture of is Brigid,
with whom I've had many long face-to-face exchanges, and Sergio (aka a.s.bessa),
who's face I can't remember tho I might recognize him again in a crowd.
So, I'll start with "you," Shane, whom I've only "met" through this exchange
that "we've" all had privy to, through your words. Shane is a Doctor,
so he looms large ("authority figure"ÖAmerican brainwashing about how
wonderful doctors areÖPhDs included), tall, with big bones. He has dark
hair, and is rather good-looking (Shane is the name of the character in
"Old Yeller," a classic American kid's movie, so he's a good guy who wears
a white shirt). The camera-angle is low, as if from a child's pov. Surrounding
him are green trees and grass, as I imagine it to be at King's College/University
of Aberdeen (wherever that isÖI don't have a clue!!) He's a curious guy,
very polite, almost quiet in an intellectual sort of way. I don't have
any sense that he is around people, I always see him alone, near a hill,
even. Well, I actually don't see any of you with other people. I think
that is one of the "places" I go to when I write during this exchange
(and others), into a vacuum where we all live in some sort of invisible
vitrine, still, surrounded by color but not moving much. I have a direct
line to this place in my mind when I'm at the keyboard (oh, Shane, I feel
for you, plucking those keys one by one like that, so labored!!).
We've all been linked together with this invisible line when it's accessed
(as it has been for the past few daysÖbravo!), like the long tunnel that
the characters in "Being John Malkovich" have when they go into Malcovich's
mind (recommended viewing). We never get to go thru the shoot, but it's
there, and the words are on the other side. Not the actions, just the
words and the image of the body, the person standing there alone (slightly
tilted).
Words seem to be so much OUTSIDE the body and never take me into it (like
in the movie).
That's OK, I don't desire anything more.
My best to all you tilted people,
Julie
