Steve Jervis has suffered from ME since 1994. He went to bed
one day and the illness struck. Three months later, he was still there. The first two
years were very difficult because of Steves lack of knowledge about the illness.
Jackie Pugh, a student at university, started to feel the effects of the illness in
December 1994. After six months of a gradual onset of symptoms, she had to leave
university because of her illness.
In March 1996, Jackie & Steve decided to set up the support group for two reasons:-
1) because of the problems and lack of help they received in the early stages of the
illness
2) to support other ME sufferers who are experiencing the same problems.
In the early stages the group was intended for sufferers in the Great Wyrley/Cheslyn Hay
area of the West Midlands. After 3 years and 300+ members, the group found that it covered
most areas of the Midlands to the extent that satellite meetings are being considered, and
is now a registered charity.
The support that the group offers includes: a monthly newsletter with information and
general interest items for members; a Talk to ME service, for sufferers to
contact each other by phone. Information and advice are available by phone from the
groups office. The group also provides home visits for sufferers and monthly
meetings take place on the first Thursday of every month at Frank F. Harrison School,
Leamore Lane, Bloxwich, Walsall between 7pm and 9pm.
Satellite meetings:Shirley - Second Monday of each month, Room2, Shirley Community
Centre, Stratford Road, Shirley, Birmingham.
Sutton Coldfield - Good Hope Hospital, Seminar Room, Post Graduate Medical Centre, 3rd
Tuesday of every month, 730pm-9.00pm.

Please note that as a charity and a self-funding organisation we rely on donations to keep
running. If anyone or any company would like to make a donation, either cash or office
equipment, they would assist us in helping other sufferers. Also we are in contact with
other ME groups, so any excesses of equipment will always be put to good use.
