AGM 99

Newsletter, June, 1999

Hope you are all as well as possible and the sunshine is cheering you up a bit. Lets hope that summer is on its way at last. Welcome to all the new members who have joined us in the last few months.
Awareness week seemed to be a bit of a flop with not a lot going on in the week. The one good thing that came out of it was that there was a debate in the House of Commons on Awareness day. This was led by Tony Wright MP for Great Yarmouth. If anyone wants a copy of the transcript please send a SAE to the office and we will forward one on to you.
The collections at Tesco and Sainsburys went very well. We now need volunteers for the collections in August. So if you, family or friends can help us with this, please give Neil Kyte a ring as soon as possible. These collections can only be successful with help. We cannot do it all ourselves.
Dont forget the meeting on Thursday, it would be great to see you there.
Best Wishes and Keep Smiling,                         Steve Jervis.

MEETINGS:-
THURSDAY 3rd JUNE, 7.00 - 9.00PM, FRANK F HARRISON SCHOOL, LEAMORE LANE, BLOXWICH, A-Z REF P22 3D
At May’s meeting we reported back all that the group has done and achieved in the last 12 months at our AGM. A copy of the minutes is included with this month’s newsletter. We don’t have anything 'official' organised for June’s meeting, so why not just pop along for a chat!
Shirley is the first, of hopefully many, satellite meetings we want to arrange for our members. We realise that many members can’t travel far, or live too far away, so we want to bring our meetings to you.
If you would like more information on the meetings held in Shirley, contact Shirley (confusing I know!) 0121 705 9516.
MONDAY 14TH JUNE 7.30 - 9.00PM, ROOM 2, SHIRLEY COMMUNITY CENTRE, STRATFORD ROAD

THANK YOU
To all those who helped with the collection at Tesco, Walsall on Saturday 15th May. The total collected was £100.35p. Also thanks to those who helped at Sainsbury’s, Reedswood on 21st-22nd May. The amount collected will be reported next month.

Cannock Chase
Anyone interested in visiting Cannock Chase can borrow an electric wheelchair from the Marcus Drive Visitors Centre. This will allow you to go on the same walks as the rest of the family under your own steam. I know we all appreciate our independence.

Spring Raffle
As reported last month, we have launched the spring raffle which will be drawn on Thursday July 1st. Anyone wishing to help out and sell raffle tickets should contact the group office. This is an ideal opportunity for every member to help support the group and other sufferers.

Information Day
A Complimentary Medicine Information Day is being held on Saturday 19th June from 11am to 4pm at the Walsall Leather Museum, opened by Richard Shepherd MP. There will be talks, videos, demonstrations, and therapists available to answer questions on therapies including: acupuncture, osteopathy, hypnotherapy, aromatherapy, and allergies and food sensitivity. For more details contact 01922 620047

Comments
If you have any suggestions to make about the group, what it does, or anything else - be they good or bad - please don’t hesitate to contact us. You may remain anonymous if you wish, and you may contact any committee member at any time. We need to know what we’re doing wrong as well as what’s right if we’re to provide the best service to you the members.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Simon Rose, Eleanor Guinan, Anne-Marie Green, Jackie Poole, Elaine Bond, Vera Brindley, Barrie Mills, Mrs M Turton, Maria Romera, Ivan Hood, Lin Stone, Mrs I Shanahan, Jennifer Bull, Bill McFetridge.

Did you know?
Don’t talk while your GP is taking your blood pressure. Apparently this causes the pressure to shoot up.

Midsummer Madness
On Saturday 19th June at 8pm Club 2000 are organising an over 25’s disco (that counts me out then!) at Fentham Hall, Hampton-in-Arden. Tickets are £5 and available from 0121 688 0693. The dress code is smart casual. The music is Class Music from the 60’s right up to the 90’s. My reason for mentioning this? All proceeds are going to charity - including us - thanks guys!
