In the early days the map looked more like the one on the right which was produced in 1860 in the country's infancy. You can see the full sized version by following this link to the University of Texas library but be warned, the file is enormous and takes a fair while to download!

My favourite city is Sydney, Host of the 2000 Olympic Games (Click for map). The Harbour, shown on the left, with it's Opera House and Bridge, draws thousands of visitors from all round the world every year.
