"ANN LETITIA RUSSEL"

41ft. "WATSON" Twin Screw Motor Life Boat.

Model Scale = 1" to 1ft. (1:12)

Length O.A. = 44"(1,118mm). Beam = 12"(304mm).

This type of 41ft. "WATSON" class non self righting boat was originally powered by two 35hp. Petrol engines, this gave her a top speed of 8knots. This class of life boat was introduced into service in the early 1930’s, the actual boat this model is based on is the "ANN LETITIA RUSSEL" she was based on station at Fleetwood for most of her working life, from Feb.1939 to Feb 1976. In her career she was launched 205 times and saved 158 lives. However there were many boats in the class and you can easily with some research base your model on one of these others.

This kit was originally produced by "WYRELIGHT MODELS" of Fleetwood, this company was taken over by "METCALF MOULDINGS". We are pleased to announce the re-introduction of this model of an unusual and distinctive boat, although the kit is fairly complex it is very complete, with concise and detailed illustrated instructions and drawings, making her a model kit that can be tackled even by the competent beginner to model boating.

This comprehensive kit contains the following parts:

All the above makes for a complete kit to make the model to museum standards, when fitted with individual motor controls the on the water performance is very realistic and looks good.

Construction is fairly straightforward and manageable by even a complete beginner to model boating, construction of the model features some unique and well thought out ideas, the two ‘veneered’ cockpit covers being constructed from GRP mouldings covered in 1:12th. scale printed dolls house paper, these when made up are extremely effective and fool most people into thinking they are actually covered in veneer.

When I built my prototype model I found it an extremely enjoyable experience, having at the end a truly lovely model to look at and use, I found her performance on the water to be both responsive and stable, even in rough weather, the transfer of the hull from full-size to model accurately reproducing her sea keeping qualities.
