"52ft.ARUN Lifeboat "B.P. FORTIES"
Scale = 5/8" to 1ft. (1:20)
32"lg. x 10.1/4" bm.
This latest release is from a set of plugs and moulds prepared by Brian King, acknowledged as one of the UK finest model boat builders and winner of many gold medals at the M.E. exhibition. Our Hull and Materials pack is based on his gold medal winning model of the "B.P. FORTIE".
Although our pack has been researched and designed as the Aberdeen lifeboat 54-05 "R.N.L.I. B.P. FORTIES" the pack can equally be used (with some research) for any of the 54ft. round stern "ARUN" class lifeboats.
Our Hull & Materials pack is ideal for the modeller looking to build the ARUN class at a more reasonable size to our usual impressive 1:12th. scale mouldings. Having said that though, this is not a small set of mouldings, the finished model at just over 32"lg is not small. The pack feature a superb new set of drawings by David Metcalf, owing to the completeness of this set of GRP mouldings we fancy that over 75% of the model is already made for you.
GRP MOULDINGS.
This set features a beautifully moulded one piece hull, complete with shallow tunnels and side rubbing strips.
The deck is moulded with the correct cambers and with the main side step-downs all moulded in as one.
And finally the one piece superstructure is moulded complete with rear step sides moulded in.
MATERIAL PACK.
This included the 6mm x 3mm styrene strips to join the deck to the hull sides, enough 1.5mm, 1mm & 0.75mm sheet styrene material to make up the deck coamings, hatches, side vent cut-outs, wheelhouse interior and flybridge. Clear glazing to make the windows.
Also included is the 6mm half-round rubber fendering to go around the hull.
The mouldings are all of the best quality and are moulded in white with a slightly matt finish, very little work is required to make them ready for immediate use
DRAWINGS.
The brand new set of drawings have been specially prepared by David Metcalf to show the boat as she was originally launched, the drawings are of the full-size vessel rather than of the model, however they are to exact scale and can be used to construct a highly detailed model, these drawings consist of:
Drg No.1.
Main Side elevation of whole boat, section along the centreline of wheelhouse showing the interior bulkhead positions. Transverse section across front of wheelhouse showing front internal hatch details.
Drg. No.2.
Main plan view of whole boat, plan view on interior of wheelhouse showing position of seats, instruments and bulkheads, and transverse section on back of wheelhouse showing arrangement of steps to wheelhouse back.
Drg. No.3.
This is the Template drawing and shows the size and position of hatch to be cut in main deck moulding, hatch coaming upstand, details of wheelhouse interior parts (some have to be shaped in to fit wheelhouse GRP moulding) and developed shape of parts to form flybridge.
INSTRUCTION MANUAL.
This manual has been written by David Metcalf to specifically aid the building of the model, it goes through step by step the suggested construction sequence for making the model. How to handle and work the GRP mouldings and H.I.P.S. (High Impact Polystyrene Sheet) What glues to use, how to paint the model and a full Humbrol numbered suggested colour scheme, what motors to use and fitting Radio Control if required, it includes a list of other suppliers for what fittings are available.
We feel that the above package allows for a really detailed model to be made, although best suited to a modeller with some previous experience, the more ambitious beginner should not be put off having a go at her. Fitted with two to four channel R/C her performance on the water is really excellent, her hull form allows for use even in fairly rough conditions, she makes up into a beautiful model ideal for scale regattas or static display.
Hull Pack Price = £145.00p. + £10 P & P.
