MOONBEAM
Replica of a 1913 pond yacht.
This, our companies first full model yacht kit, is based around a fibreglass hull taken off a prototype yacht that we know to have been free sailing on the Round Pond in Kensington in early 1913. The model design probably dates from the late 1890s. As well as taking a mould off the hull we also sketched the original rig, this we have faithfully reproduced. We have however taken the decision to make the model above decks of a more scale appearance, thus we hope making her more attractive to the modeller.
Remembering that in the early 20th century there was no R/C, models had to be free sailing, they therefore had to be stable and capable of holding a true course, these sailing features have transferred admirably to our model. The on the water sailing performance of the prototype is really superb, using just 2 channel R/C gear. (Full details of how to fit and set-up the sail winch is described in the instructions) With her deep draft she is very stable, quick and manoeuvrable. The hull is of full deep keel type that will require internal ballast (not supplied) On the prototype we used No.3 Lead shot (purchased from a local gunsmiths)
The rig can however be easily & quickly folded flat for transport & storage, this process being fully described in the instructions.
We have also here enclosed a couple of files off of a selection of some of our digital photos. One file is off the finished model, the other file off the model during construction. These files only show a small selection from the digital photo CD that is available (please phone for availability) by return of post.
