This model, the latest in our range of full kits, is, we believe, one of the most unusual subjects ever to have been chosen to kit. It is a two berth 'tug yacht', based on a design from the board of one of the most innovative boat designers in the world, Jay Benford. This talented American designer specialises in 'live aboard' and dual purpose designs of real original thought.
This small 27ft sea-worthy vessel is designed to operate coastally and on all the rivers throughout the USA (such as the mighty Mississippi) right up through to the great lakes. Easily handled by a couple, designed for extended cruising and also capable of towing small cargoes (such as pontoon accommodation) she is a small capable multi-role vessel of colourful, robust appearance.
Our model of the "RIVER STAR" has a single screw and features a modified type of balanced 'fish-tail' rudder. The model of the "RIVER STAR" is for a full model boat kit containing all parts (other than motor, batteries & R/C) as follows:-
Nicely moulded white one piece GRP hull with fender belting moulded on.
Five accurately printed styrene sheets for all parts for decks, saloon, wheelhouse etc.
Vacuum formed funnel & funnel cap.
Propeller shaft, prop, rudder, tube, arm etc.
Nearly 100 precision cast white metal fittings.
Brass rod for railings, "D" rubber for fendering, clear glazing, dowel etc.
Concise, easy to follow fully illustrated construction manual plus full-size scale detailed construction drawing by David Metcalf make for great ease of construction.
We feel this to be a model that is eminently suited to the beginner to model boating, indeed one of the reasons for picking the "RIVER STAR" was the designed ease of construction. Having said that, this is a scale kit and is equally suited to the experienced builder. Powered by a single "545" type motor and two channel R/C. She is manoeuvrable, stable and colourful on the water, with her high bulwarks she will also take heavier water in her stride. Ideal for just sailing around the lake or regatta work she lends herself much to further detailing and personalising.
