PAMPLONA CATHEDRAL CHOIR

The Choir and Orchestra of Pamplona Cathedral

PADRE AURELIO SAGASETA (Maestro de Capilla)

Spanish choral music has advanced significantly in recent years, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the Choir of the Cathedral of Santa Marķa la Real de Pamplona (the statutes of which date from 1206). The singers of this mixed adult choir are accompanied by a chamber orchestra or by harp, viola da gamba and organ. Their musicality, spirituality and very able Maestro de Capilla made a deep impression on audiences at their 1995 concerts in London (St. John's, Smith Square) and Oxford (Exeter College Chapel).

They offer programmes including Gregorian plainchant, Renaissance polyphony and music from the Baroque era up to the present day. They like particularly to perform a concert which illustrates the fascinating musical history and traditions of Pamplona Cathedral itself.
